BIOLA LENT PROJECT 2023

Biola University Center for Christianity Culture & the Arts

Biola's Center for Christianity, Culture, and the Arts offers a FREE online Lent Project designed to aid you in pausing each day to reflect on the meaning of the season. The sacrificial season of Lent is a time for us to purposefully go deeper with Christ through reflection, action, and renewal. It’s a time to realign our spirits and strengthen our dependence upon God. It’s a period of genuine repentance, of concentrated reconciliation with others, of fasting from all that distracts us, and recommitting our lives to Christ in love and service.

The 2023 Lent Project starts on Ash Wednesday, February 22nd and runs through Bright Week, Saturday, April 15th. Each day of the Lent Project features a Scripture passage, a devotional written by a member of the Biola community, a work of fine art, a poem, and a piece of music. This year we have chosen to focus on the Book of John in its entirety. Our prayer is that in the midst of this challenging season, the Lent Project will help you encounter Christ anew through John's eyewitness account of Jesus' ministry.

BIOLA ADVENT PROJECT 2022

Biola University Center for Christianity Culture & the Arts

Advent calendars come in all shapes and sizes but what they have in common is a daily rhythm of anticipatory reflection. Biola's Center for Christianity, Culture, and the Arts offers a FREE online Advent Project designed to help you pause each day to reflect on the beauty and meaning of the season. The 2022 Advent Project starts on the first day of Advent, November 26, 2022, and continues through January 7, 2023. Each day of the Advent Project features a Scripture passage, a devotion written by a member of the Biola community, a work of visual art, a poem, and a piece of music. Our prayer is that in the midst of the busy Christmas season, the Advent Project will help ground you in the unsurpassable beauty, mystery, and miracle of the Word made flesh.

ART & THEOLOGY

Victoria Emily Jones

Revitalizing the Christian imagination through painting, poetry, music, and more.

The mission of Art & Theology is to help the church rediscover its rich heritage in the visual, literary, and musical arts and to open it up to the activity of contemporary artists, whose giftings can enable us to see God in new and different ways. Art can enhance our spiritual perception, enrich our prayer lives, stimulate renewed engagement with the Bible, make us more empathetic, challenge our beliefs in a healthy way, and bring us into more intimate contact with the world. Art testifies; it questions; it holds accountable; it stirs and reveals.

Art also slows us down: It invites us to gaze. Deeply. In doing so it fosters the habit of contemplation.

ART WAY

ArtWay is a website with a great variety of materials and resources for scholars, artists, art enthusiasts, and congregations concerned about linking art and faith.

Motivated by a Christian view of life, ArtWay seeks to open up the world of the visual arts to the interested layman and woman. Our goal is to hand people a key to this world that is rich and fascinating yet sometimes hard to enter.

ArtWay desires to open eyes for the beauty and meaning of art, so that more and more people may begin to enjoy the vast treasury of art that has been and is being produced and to learn to discern the spirits as mature and culturally aware viewers.
